Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery)

With age, the skin around the eyes loses its elasticity, muscles weaken, and fat protrusion can result in what is commonly referred to as ‘eye bags’ formation. The eyes can therefore take on an older, tired looking appearance, and in some cases, severe upper lid drooping/hooding can cause obstructed vision.

In some individuals, there is a familial tendency towards developing eye bags at a relatively younger age, before any other skin changes are seen.

Blepharoplasty is a popular cosmetic surgical procedure that can effectively correct excess loose, hooded skin affecting the upper eyelid and puffiness or eye bags in the lower lid, resulting in a fresher, more youthful appearance around the eyes.

It is not suitable for treating crow’s feet/ wrinkles, addressing dark circles under the eyes, or lifting drooping eyebrows. In patients concerned with drooping eyebrows, a brow lift may be more appropriate and, in any case, all these procedures can be performed separately or in conjunction with each other.
