Botulinum Toxin Facial Rejuvenation
Facial skin lines and wrinkles that form as part of the aging process are often caused by a number of factors including sun damage, the long term effects of gravity and repeated contractions of muscles such as those engaged when laughing or frowning. Wrinkles caused due to the negative effects of gravity or deeper more advanced lines and wrinkles may be better treated with surgical facial rejuvenation procedures. However, wrinkles that have arisen as a result of continuous muscle over activity such as forehead and frown lines and lines around the eyes, or crows feet, can be successfully softened or even temporarily eliminated by use of wrinkle-relaxing injections of Botulinum Toxin.
Botulinum Toxin Type A, a neurotoxin used in non-surgical cosmetic procedures, works by temporarily weakening or reducing the action of a muscle by blocking nerve signals to the muscle. The best results are achieved by adjusting the volume of Botulinum Toxin used without disturbing total muscle function which could result in an unnatural ‘expressionless’ appearance.
